Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Question:

263 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason no Department official has called to assess the circumstances of a person (details supplied) in County Mayo to ascertain his eligibility for the farm assist scheme. [19504/99]

A decision on the farm assist application from the person concerned was issued to him on 8 October 1999. A deciding officer has assessed his weekly means at £40.00 for farm assist purposes, from 21 April 1999. This assessment is based on a means assessment which was carried out on 4 February 1998 and entitles him to payment at the weekly rate of £53.30. He is also entitled to arrears covering the period from 21 April 1999 to 5 October 1999 which will issue to him on 14 October 1999. An inspector will visit the person concerned soon to review his means from a current date, following which his entitlement will be adjusted if necessary.
