96 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of non-indictable offences committed per region for each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19743/99]

The number of non-indictable offences in which proceedings were taken per Garda region for each of the past five years is as set out below.

The total number of non-indictable offences in which proceedings were taken has decreased steadily over the past five years, from 500,747 in 1994 to 413,340 to 1998 which is a drop of over 21 per cent.
