Question:

131 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will review the situation whereby an EU national driving a hired car which is involved in an accident is not required to show his driver's licence and evidence of tax and insurance to the gardaí; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20842/99]

An EU national driving a car hired in the State is subject to normal requirements regarding insurance, tax and driver licensing and to supervision by the Garda Síochána for the purposes of road traffic law enforcement.
