Vol. 509 No. 5

Written Answers. - Youth Services.

Richard Bruton

Question:

156 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will review the allocation of funds under the youth disadvantage scheme which resulted in no money being awarded to projects or groups in Dublin 3, 5, 9 and 17 in spite of the needs in significant parts of these areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The grant scheme for special projects to assist disadvantaged youth is a special fund to provide out-of-school youth work programmes and services for young people in particular need.

With regard to youth services in the Dublin 3, 5, 9 and 17 areas, my Department provides financial assistance through the City of Dublin Youth Service Board for projects in these areas. Projects include Ballymun Youth Action Project, Ballymun Youth Provision, Bonnybrook Youth Project, Donnycarney Youth Project and the Priorswood Youth Service. In addition, the City of Dublin Youth Service Board receives an annual grant of £647,444 to operate a local youth club grant scheme in their region and a further £26,555 per annum towards the costs of Foroige North Dublin youth development officer.
