Vol. 509 No. 5

Written Answers. - Air Services.

Enda Kenny

Question:

93 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the proposals, if any, she has to continue developments at the State owned airports; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20847/99]

Aer Rianta is engaged in a major capital investment programme at its three airports to cater for the high rate of growth in passenger numbers over recent years and to ensure the availability of sufficient capacity to meet future anticipated growth. To date I have approved over £300 million in capital expenditure at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports covering the period 1996-2001.

Aer Rianta's further capital investment programme, together with forecasts in passenger growth numbers, are among the issues being examined by the advisers which I and the Minister for Finance appointed to assist in the examination of the company's future strategic direction. Their report is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks following consideration of which I will report to Government with recommendations in regard to the future of Aer Rianta.
