Vol. 509 No. 5

Written Answers. - Farm Retirement Scheme.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

112 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if a person (details supplied) in County Meath qualifies for a farm retirement pension in view of the fact he farmed in partnership with his son from 6 April 1992 and transferred lands to him in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20914/99]

Under the terms and conditions of the scheme of early retirement from farming, a retiring farmer must, on the date he or she ceases farming, that is, the date all the legal transfer documents are signed, be between his or her 55th and 66th birthdays.

When the person named transferred the land to his son in 1996 he was aged 69. As he was outside the age limits for transferors, as set out in the scheme guidelines, he could not qualify for a pension under the scheme.
