Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Gross National Product.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

183 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the measure of GNP used within her Department for official purposes; if her Department is using the CSO agreed exhaustive ESA95 figures; if not, when it will update its figures to incorporate this new standard; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21724/99]

My officials use the most up-to-date statistics on gross national product, produced by the Central Statistics Office, when such statistics are required in the official work of my Department. In this regard, my Department now has available to it the latest GNP estimates for Ireland, published on 30 June 1999 by the Central Statistics Office as part of the 1998 national income and expenditure accounts. These estimates have been compiled in accordance with the new European system of accounts, known as ESA95.
