Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Question:

268 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will qualify for the proposed payment of £35 per ewe for the cull ewe scheme, in conjunction with the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, in spite of the fact he is a REP scheme applicant and he disposed of his ewes before joining the REP scheme. [21653/99]

As the person named was not participating in the REP scheme at the time of the introduction of the ewe supplementary measure in 1998 he was obliged to cull 30 per cent of his flock under the latter scheme. He should therefore be entitled to compensatory payments under a scheme proposed by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands. That Department is currently awaiting approval for this scheme by the EU Commission following which it hopes to make payments at the earliest possible date.
