Question:

291 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Finance the number of taxpayers earning in excess of £50,000 a year; the number of married households earning in excess of £100,000 a year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21186/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

Income Tax Year 1999/2000

Gross Income

Numbers

1)All taxpayers earning in excess of £50,000:

70,700

These figures are provisional and are subject to revision.
A married couple who has elected or has been deemed to have elected for joint assessment is counted as one tax unit.
