Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ansbacher Accounts Tax Yield.

John Gormley

Question:

300 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Finance if he will recoup taxes owed by Ansbacher account holders; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21509/99]

As the Deputy will be aware recovery of taxes that may be owed by any person is a matter for the Rev enue Commissioners. I am informed by the Commissioners that a special unit has been set up and is investigating the tax compliance of the Ansbacher account holders and associated persons. The investigations will cover all aspects of compliance and will include consideration of prosecutions for tax offences where sufficient evidence can be obtained. Any arrears of tax identified will be pursued together with interest and penalties, where appropriate.
