Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Home Help Services.

Richard Bruton

Question:

360 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the rate of payment made to home helps by each of the health boards; the provision, if any, he is making in his Estimates to pay those providing home help services the minimum wage; and if he will give assurances that he will not delay the payment until the last moment permissible by law. [21521/99]

The rates of payment to part-time home helps in each health board are as follows:

Health Board

Rate of pay per hour

Eastern Health Board

£3.00–£4.00

Midland Health Board

£3.50–£4.00

Mid-Western Health Board

£3.00–£4.00

North-Eastern Health Board

£3.00–£4.00

North-Western Health Board

£3.32–£4.00

South-Eastern Health Board

£3.00–£4.00

Southern Health Board

£3.00–£4.00

Western Health Board

£3.00–£4.00

The above information has been obtained from the individual health boards concerned.
Additional funding was allocated to health boards this year to bring the minimum rate of payment for home helps to £3.00 per hour from 1 April 1999. The need to improve the rate of payment to home helps is accepted and it is the intention to bring about such improvements on a phased basis as resources permit.
