Joe Higgins

Question:

427 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the waste management strategies prepared with assistance from European Community Structural Funds. [21485/99]

Financial assistance was approved under the EU funded Operational Programme for Environmental Services, 1994-1999, in respect of nine waste management strategy studies carried out by or on behalf of local authorities to assist in the making of waste management plans under Part II of the Waste Management Act 1996. These studies related to the Connacht, Dublin, Limerick, midlands, north-east and south-east regions and Counties Clare, Kerry and Wexford.

OPES grant assistance was also approved in respect of a hazardous waste strategy study carried out on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency to assist in the making of a national hazardous waste management plan.
