Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Schemes.

Seamus Kirk

Question:

433 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to extend the designated areas of urban renewal in the Drogheda area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21561/99]

Designations under the 1999 urban renewal scheme were based on integrated area plans submitted by local authorities and were in line with recommendations made by an independent expert advisory panel on urban renewal which I established to assess all of the plans submitted.

The total area proposed by Louth County Council for designation in Drogheda was considered by the expert panel as being far too extensive, and as a result, the areas recommended by the local authority for designation were reduced and confined largely to the central part of Drogheda.

There are no plans to extend those areas designated in Drogheda.
