Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Donal Carey

Question:

452 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received a request from Clare County Council seeking funding for a sewerage scheme (details supplied) at Labasheeda, County Clare, where untreated sewage is polluting the River Shannon and posing a grave risk to public health. [21766/99]

An outline proposal was received in my Department in respect of Labasheeda sewerage in the context of an integrated water supply and sewerage scheme for the west Clare area. Schemes such as Labasheeda not included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme come within the terms of my Department's circular letter L9/98 of 22 October 1998, which asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in its area and to prepare a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment. This scheme is sixteenth in Clare County Council's priority list. The priority lists will be taken into consideration by my Department in framing future water and sewerage services investment programmes under the National Development Plan 2000-2006.
