Michael Ring

Question:

491 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the funding, if any, from Údarás na Gaeltachta sanctioned or paid to a project (details supplied) in County Mayo; the number of jobs this project created; the number of people employed by the company; if the project is operated as a limited liability company as set out in the Companies Act; if any member of Údarás na Gaeltachta has a personal involvement with this company, is a director of the company or personally derives any benefit, directly or indirectly from the company; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21299/99]

I understand from Údarás na Gaeltachta that it has approved assistance of £1.26 million in grants and preference shares for the undertaking in question; details of this assistance will be published in its annual reports as it is paid; recruitment of workers has commenced with an employment target of 84 persons at full production; the company in question and its subsidiary company are limited companies under the Companies Acts; no member of an tÚdarás has a personal involvement in the companies in question, is a director of either of the companies or derives any benefit from them; a local business, with which a board member of an tÚdarás is involved, has a small preferential shareholding in the undertaking in question; the board member in question disclosed this interest to the board of an tÚdarás; and the appropriate procedure in relation to disclosure of interest was adhered to in the decision making in relation to assistance for the undertaking.
