Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Registration of Title.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

523 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the situation in relation to a land registry application by a person (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21356/99]

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that this dealing refers to an application under section 49, namely, acquisition of title by virtue of long possession of the Registration of Title Act, 1964, which was lodged on 25 April 1997. I understand that due to their complicated nature, applications under section 49, which require detailed examination of claims for registration as owners, can take some time to process. I am further informed that queries issued to the applicant's solicitors on 3 February 1999 and 23 February 1999 and replies are awaited. The queries raised must be satisfactorily discharged before the matter can proceed. I have also been informed that there is an associated application pending and both applications must be dealt with together. Accordingly, it is not possible to estimate a completion date for the application concerned at this stage. However, I can assure the Deputy that there will be no undue delay on the part of the Land Registry in finalising matters.
