Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Recruitment.

Jim Higgins

Question:

531 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the maximum age of 26 years for entry as a trainee Garda will be extended in cases where applicants have a certain number of years service with the FCÁ. [21632/99]

The upper age limit for admission to the Garda Síochána is generally 26 years. However, the regulations governing recruitment to the Force provide for extensions to the age limit in respect of service in the Defence Forces, including the FCA. In the case of FCA service a credit of up to two years can be applied.
