Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Louis J. Belton

Question:

630 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Education and Science when a senior language unit will be put in place at St. Joseph's national school, Longford, in view of the fact accommodation is available for this unit. [21646/99]

I am aware that the school in question has made application to my Department for the establishment of a special class for senior pupils with specific speech and language disorder.

The establishment of such a class requires the availability of a speech therapy service from the relevant health board. I understand that in the case in question, the Midland Health Board has encountered difficulty in providing the necessary speech therapy service.

I have asked my officials to contact the health board with a view to expediting the provision of the necessary speech therapy service so that the class can be established.
