Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - GNP Statistics.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

111 Mr. Quinn asked the Taoiseach the measure of GNP used within his Department for official purposes; if his Department is using the CSO agreed exhaustive ESA95 figures; if not, when it will update its figures to incorporate this new standard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21720/99]

The CSO compiles and publishes the official estimates of GNP. The latest estimates for 1990-1998 published in June of this year in the National Income and Expenditure, 1998 publication, are based on the ESA95 standards. These also include significant upward revisions to the levels previously published to take account of the so-called exhaustiveness issues. This was required of all member states under the terms of Commission Decision 94/168/EC. These figures are used by my Department.
