Vol. 510 No. 2

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Willie Penrose

Question:

124 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason no reply was furnished by his Department in respect of a visa application for a person (details supplied) in view of the urgency attached; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22123/99]

I regret the delay in replying to the Deputy's representations which was due to the large volume of correspondence on hands in the immigration division of my Department. I was not aware that a particular urgency attached to the matter as the visa application in question was refused in July 1998 and my Department has no record of having received an appeal.

The visa application was refused because my Department was not satisfied, on the basis of the documents supplied, that applicant's visit would be genuinely short-term in nature. It is of course open to the applicant to apply again if there is new information which he wishes to bring to my Department's attention.
