Vol. 510 No. 2

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Michael Creed

Question:

98 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if a person (details supplied) in County Cork who has previously made application to tribunal for additional milk quota will benefit from the recent distribution of the additional 20 million gallons secured under the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy; if he will benefit from the five million gallons specifically set aside for young farmers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22124/99]

The eligibility criteria for the allocation of the additional 20.5 million gallons which becomes available on 1 April 2000 were announced by me on 13 October. When EU approval is received, my Department will put in place a scheme for the allocation of that quota.

At that stage, details of the scheme will be published and application forms will be available from my Department and from milk purchasers. If the person in question meets the criteria set down, then there is no reason why he will not benefit from additional quota.
