Vol. 510 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Maritime College.

Question:

81 Mr. Coveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the progress being made on the building of a maritime college in Ringaskiddy County Cork, in view of the fact that he gave an assurance that the costings research would be completed by July 1999. [22887/99]

The establishment of a new national maritime college is a key element of the Government's strategy for the maritime sector which is highlighted in An Action Programme for the Millennium.

The interdepartmental expert working group established to examine the costings, financing and timing of the new college is now finalising its work.

The one item remaining to be considered by the group before it completes its report to Government, is a consultant's report assessing the feasibility of a public private partnership approach to the development of the proposed new national maritime college. The consultants are expected to complete their work this month.
