Vol. 510 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Bernard Allen

Question:

147 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on a reported dispute between Beaumont Hospital and two of Dublin's children's hospitals, Temple Street and Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin, over paediatric cover; and the discussions, if any, which have taken place with his Department in this regard. [23023/99]

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the recent discussions which have taken place between Beaumont Hospital, the Children's Hospital, Temple Street and Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin concerning paediatric nephrology cover. I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department is currently processing two consultant nephrologist posts with shared sessions between these hospitals.

Alan Shatter

Question:

153 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason it was not discovered that a person (details supplied) who attended at the casualty department of St. Vincent's Hospital during the summer had suffered a serious fracture in spite of being x-rayed on two occasions and was only detected when she subsequently attended the Blackrock Clinic for an x-ray; if he will ensure no other patient attending at casualty in St. Vincent's Hospital has a similar experience; and if he will seek an explanation from the hospital. [23029/99]

The provision of medical treatment in this case, is a matter, in the first instance, for St. Vincent's Hospital. I have therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the hospital to investigate this case and reply directly to the Deputy.
