Vol. 510 No. 5

Written Answers. - Community Groups.

Richard Bruton

Question:

201 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the funds, if any, made available to community groups which wish to develop a community directory of services in their area; and if he will give details of these schemes. [22981/99]

Area Development Management Limited, who operate under the aegis of my Department, produced a national Directory Profile of Community based LD Groups earlier this year. The directory received funding of £4,000 from the EU Operational Programme for Local, Urban, Rural Development (LURD) 1994-1999.

Individual area-based partnerships and community groups, who are also funded under the programme, may commit a portion of their allocated budget to such initiatives without prior reference to this Department.

The pilot integrated services project which aims to improve co-ordination and integration in the delivery of State services in four targeted areas of urban disadvantage – Dublin's north east inner city; Dublin 8 flats complexes; Jobstown in Tallaght and Togher in Cork, has included the launch of a Directory of Statutory Services on 3 November last, which was compiled by a number of key agencies participating in the ISP and published by Dublin Corporation.
Meanwhile, Dublin 8 ISP hopes to shortly have a Directory of Statutory Services for its own area. It will be compiled by the National Social Services Board and produced by Dublin Corporation. The Community and Development Institute has produced a Directory of Statutory, Community and Voluntary Sector Services in the Togher ISP area.
