Vol. 510 No. 5

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Liam Aylward

Question:

207 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if a person is qualified for a higher education grant in the first year of the course; and if this qualifies them for a grant in subsequent years. [22978/99]

The higher education grant scheme is administered by the local authorities. Under the terms of the scheme, grants are tenable for the normal duration of the approved course and are renewable annually subject to satisfactory attainment and the approval of the local authority. Grants are provisional for the year in which they are first awarded and are only continued in subsequent academic years where the local authority is satisfied that the provisions of the scheme continue to be complied with fully.
