Vol. 510 No. 5

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

40 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to introduce legislation for the licensing and regulation of body piercing services and tattoo artists; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22931/99]

I have no plans to regulate the activities of body piercing services and tattoo artists. Under the Infectious Disease Regulations 1981, health boards are empowered, where there is reason to believe that a possible source of infection exists, to carry out an investigation and take such steps as are necessary or desirable for investigating the nature and source of such infection, for preventing the spread of infection and for removing conditions favourable to such infection.
