58 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on the increase in personal injury claims against doctors; the cost of these claims in each of the years from 1993 to 1998; and the plans, if any, he has in this regard. [22858/99]

My Department does not have any information on the direct cost of claims against doctors for personal injury arising from the practice of medicine. However, estimates of the cost of providing insurance-indemnity cover against such claims in the years 1993 to 1998 are set out in the table below.
