Vol. 510 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tobacco Industry.

Jack Wall

Question:

74 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will consider a public health campaign in the media concentrating on cardiovascular health to be in place before the total ban on tobacco advertising comes into effect in June 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22853/99]

Multimedia public education campaigns are carried out by the health promotion unit of my Department on an ongoing basis in relation to smoking, diet and exercise, all of which are lifestyle factors associated with coronary heart disease.

The question of running a specific cardiovascular health campaign will be considered in the context of the implementation of the many recommendations contained in the report, Building Healthier Hearts.
