Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tax Allowances.

Pat Carey

Question:

196 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to increase the tax allowances of widows and widowers treated as a single person with an allowance of £500 in view of the fact it has remained the same for the past ten years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23187/99]

The issue of changes to any tax allowances is a matter for the budget and the Deputy will appreciate if, in accordance with normal procedure, I do not comment on such issues in advance of the budget.
