Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Atmospheric Pollution.

Ivor Callely

Question:

282 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the air quality in Dublin city; the EU standards in relation to air quality; if he will give a breakdown of air quality for the EU capital cities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23273/99]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 262 of 2 February 1999. The current EU air quality standards are set out in the Environmental Protection Agency's air quality monitoring annual report 1997. Further updated information on Dublin's air quality is contained in the 1998-99 annual report of Dublin Corporation's atmospheric pollution and noise control unit (Dublin Corporation 1999). Comparative information in respect of selected EU and European cities is available in the European Environment Agency's reports, air pollution in Europe 1997 (EEA 1997) and assessment and management of urban air quality in Europe (EEA 1998). Copies of these reports have been placed in the Oireachtas Library.
