Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Film Industry Development.

John McGuinness

Question:

348 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the progress, if any, in relation to the provision of a proper funding mechanism for the young Irish film makers based on a submission which was made some time ago. [23545/99]

My Department does not provide direct funding for film making activity. The agencies funded by my Department that assist film makers are the Irish Film Board which provides development and production finance and The Arts Council which provides funds for film production with a focus on film as an art form. I understand that the Young Irish Film Makers' Group has received significant financial support from the Arts Council this year.
