Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Accidents.

Question:

350 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the way in which the number of deaths and injuries on roads in the first ten months of 1999 compare with the same period in 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23493/99]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that detailed statistics in relation to the number of deaths and injuries on Irish roads are provided by the National Roads Authority, St. Martin's House, Waterloo Road, Dublin 4.

Details in relation to all road accidents reported to the Garda authorities are supplied by the Garda to the National Roads Authority, and a report on road accidents entitled Road Accident Facts is prepared and published by that authority. The most recent report, which is in respect of 1997, was published by that authority.

I understand that the 1998 report is due to be published shortly, In the circumstances, the Deputy will appreciate that I cannot supply the details requested.
