Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Special Tax Refund Scheme.

Nora Owen

Question:

354 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the conclusions, if any, of the interdepartmental review of the disabled drivers and disabled passengers scheme; if the group has recommended that people who are blind will be included in those eligible to avail of the special tax refund scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23381/99]

The deliberations of the interdepartmental group of officials engaged in a review of the scheme of reliefs from vehicle registration tax and value added tax on vehicles and from excise duty on fuel used by severely and permanently physically disabled persons as drivers and passengers are not yet concluded.

In this regard, the Blind Car Owners and Users Association, through their public relations officer, made a submission to the group of officials and have been invited to make an-oral presentation to the group in due course to elaborate on their written submission.
