Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Marian McGennis

Question:

355 Ms M. McGennis asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the additional resources, if any, he will provide for the upgrading of Ballyfermot Garda station to ensure a full service to the people of Ballyfermot following the opening of the new district headquarters in Clondalkin. [23382/99]

The detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to an individual area is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that the current personnel strength of Ballyfermot Garda station – as of 31110/99 – is 65 members – all ranks.

The Garda authorities have also informed me that, on completion of the new Garda District Headquarters in Clondalkin, it is proposed that personnel from the current district headquarters at Ballyfermot – one superintendent, two inspectors and civilian staff attached to the district office – will transfer to Clondalkin. After the move to Clondalkin, there will be one inspector assigned to Ballyfermot with sole responsibility for the subdistrict.

The Garda authorities have further informed me that the operational staffing levels at Ballyfermot will be monitored and reviewed with a view to ensuring that a satisfactory policing service is maintained.
