Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Convictions.

Enda Kenny

Question:

358 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of breathalyser tests carried out in each county for each of the past five years; the number of convictions which followed in each county in that period; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23466/99]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that details regarding the number of breath tests carried out in each county and the number of convictions for the past five years is not readily available. It would require a considerable amount of Garda time to compile the information sought by the Deputy which could not be justified.

However, details regarding the number of breathalyser tests in each Garda Division and the total number of convictions, not broken down by Garda division, are set out in the annual report of the Garda Síochána copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.
