405 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for his Department's failure to purchase an area of ground (details supplied) in Mullingar, County Westmeath, to permit a school to be constructed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23647/99]

My Department has recently made an offer to the vendor for the purchase of the site in question.
