Question:

63 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the moneys provided by his Department for local authorities in relation to the accommodation of homeless people and the provision of emergency accommodation for asylum seekers for each of the years from 1995 to date; if he will give a breakdown of these costs for Dublin Corporation; the total costs to date for the provision of emergency accommodation for asylum seekers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department recoups 90 per cent and 100 per cent, respectively, of the expenditure incurred by local authorities on the provision of accommodation for homeless people and emergency accommodation for asylum seekers.

Details of recoupment by my Department for the period 1995 to end October 1999 are set out in the following table. Separate figures for recoupment as between the cost of accommodation for homeless persons and asylum seekers are only available in respect of the current year.
