Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Charitable Donations.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

123 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will seek a reduction in the lower limit for charitable donations under section 848 of the Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997, which was designed to assist Third World charities (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23549/99]

Representations have been received from Dóchas – the Irish Association of Non-Governmental Development Organisations – and individual NGOs proposing a reduction in the lower qualifying limit for tax relief for donations to Third World charities from £200 to £100. The Minister for Finance has been approached in the matter with a request that he give the matter favourable consideration.
