Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Air Accidents.

Jack Wall

Question:

130 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Public Enterprise when the report on the air accident (details supplied) which occurred at the airport at Kilrush, Athy, County Kildare, will be available; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23426/99]

This accident occurred at Kilrush Airfield, County Kildare, in April 1997. The accident involved a UK registered Cessna 172. The aircraft aborted a landing and attempted a go-around. It struck the hedge at the end of the run way, bounced in the next field and heavily impacted the next hedge. This second hedge bordered the main Athy-Kilcullen road. The aircraft came to rest on this road. There were two persons on board the aircraft, both UK nationals, and neither were injured. The aircraft suffered substantial damage.

It is expected that the draft report on this accident will be sent to the interested parties, in accordance with S.I. 205 of 1997, within the next month. The final report is expected to be published early in the new year.
