Billy Timmins

Question:

135 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her views on whether her failure to take a hands-on approach to the dispute between management and DART drivers has resulted in the current deadlock which has prevented the operation of the service to Greystones. [23671/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 134 and 135 together.

I refer the Deputy to my response to Questions Nos. 45 and 60 on the 3 November 1999. The resolution of industrial relations difficulties within the CIE group is a matter, in the first instance, for the management and the trades unions concerned.

I am keeping myself informed in relation to this dispute and I understand that contact has been maintained between both sides on the issues concerned. Until the industrial relations difficulties have been resolved it will not be possible to give an estimated start-up date for the Greystones DART service. However, Iarnród Éireann has informed me that once the current dispute is settled it will take approximately six weeks to test the line before it will be in a position to introduce a partial service.
