Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Employment of People with Disabilities.

Austin Deasy

Question:

199 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health and Children the outstanding examples, if any, of certain private industries adhering to or surpassing the guidelines laid down by his Department for the employment of people with disabilities; the situation nationally from the figures available to his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24159/99]

Departmental responsibility for employment in the private sector rests with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, as does the compilation of related information and other statistical data. I assume that the Deputy is referring to the National Rehabilitation Board's, Positive to Disability, symbol which is awarded to companies which achieve a level of excellence in their policies and practices in employing people with disabilities. To date, some 42 companies have been awarded the Positive to Disability symbol. A list of these companies follows.

Further information on the broader issue of employment of people with a disability and the implementation of the National Employment Action Plan should be available from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
