Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Recruitment.

Ivor Callely

Question:

327 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the height regulations for entry to the Garda Síochána; the consideration, if any, given to reducing the requirements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24040/99]

The height requirements for applicants for the Garda Siochána are prescribed by regulation and are currently five feet nine inches for men and five feet five inches for women. These are being reviewed at present and any proposals I may have in this regard will be submitted for consideration by the Government in due course. The height requirements will remain unchanged for the purposes of the Garda recruitment competition which was advertised during the summer.
