379 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the participation of Northern Ireland students from Protestant denominations in third level educational institutions here; and the way in which such enrolments can be increased. [24126/99]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 365, 368, 369, 375, 378 and 379 together.

Neither my Department nor the Higher Education Authority compiles student statistical information by reference to religious denomination and there are no plans to compile such information. The statistical information on the numbers of full-time students from Northern Ireland studying at third level in this country is set out on the accompanying table for the years 1993-94 to 1997-98, the five most recent years for which this data are available.
I expect the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement would create new arrangements and relationships which would encourage and facilitate greater mobility of students of all denominations within the island of Ireland.
