Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Computer Programmes.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

108 Mr. Quinn asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the cost of the Enterprise Ireland campaign to inform businesses of the problems associated with the millennium bug; the source of the funding; if any European Union funding was allocated for this purpose; if any further campaign is planned by any State agency; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24385/99]

It is expected that by the end of this year a total of about £860,000 will have been spent on the business awareness campaign being run by Enterprise Ireland relating to the year 2000 computer problem. Approximately £540,000 of this amount has come from the European Union with the balance from the Exchequer. These figures do not include staff costs, relating to officials in either Enterprise Ireland or the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

I intend to ensure the Enterprise Ireland service will continue for the rest of this year and, early next year. I am not aware of any further campaign planned by any other State agencies on this issue.
