Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Kosovar Refugees.

Billy Timmins

Question:

120 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will ensure that the Kosovar refugees located at Baltinglass, County Wicklow, are not moved to another centre in view of the fact that they have integrated into the local community and another move would be very traumatic; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24512/99]

I understand the Deputy to refer to speculation that Kosovar refugees could be moved to other reception centres to provide accommodation for asylum seekers. There is no intention of doing this, either in the specific case of the refugees in Baltinglass or of those accommodated in other centres. I agree fully that the Kosovar refugees in Baltinglass have integrated well locally and that it would be undesirable to disrupt them in an effort to resolve the separate, while urgent, problem of accommodation for asylum seekers.
