There is no allocation of capital funding from my Department to the Waterford constituency in the year 2000.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

58 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the allocation of capital funding from his Department to be made to the Waterford constituency in the year 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24762/99]

I presume the Deputy is referring to the availability of funding for Waterford under the national development plan. The position in relation to my Department is that we will be involved in the draw down of funding under the National Development Plan covering the period 2000-06 in a number of areas, for example, (i) on farm capital investment; (ii) aid for the food processing sector; (iii) small scale rural enterprises, on and off farm; and (iv) REPS, early retirement and compensatory allowances. The major schemes at (i) and (ii) above will operate nationally under the proposed productive investment inter-regional operational programme with the rural enterprise type measures at (ii) above operating in the two regional programmes, for the border, midland and western region and the southern and eastern region, including Waterford. As regards the measures at (iv), they will be operated under a separate national CAP rural development programme.

It is not planned to allocate funds for the above measures on a specific county basis but farmers and rural dwellers in Waterford will benefit under the proposed measures, as appropriate, during the seven year implementation period of the national development plan.
