Vol. 512 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rural Environment Protection Scheme.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

138 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development his views on the payment of grant aid in two parts to farmers in special areas of conservation from Dúchas on the restricted land and from his Department on REP scheme grants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25579/99]

One of the general conditions of eligibility for the REP scheme is that all the land farmed must be included in the agri-environmental plan. This condition is specifically repeated in the provisions for supplementary measure A as approved by the European Commission. Accordingly, REPS payments can only be approved where the entire holding is included in the REPS plan.
