Vol. 512 No. 1

Written Answers. - Stay Safe Programme.

Willie Penrose

Question:

232 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the serious concern felt by parents of children attending St. Etchen's national school, Kinnegad, County Westmeath, regarding traffic outside the school in view of the fact it is situated on the N4 primary route; if he will make representations to have speed controls and pedestrian lights erected outside the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25575/99]

Safety in and around schools is always a matter of concern to myself and my Department. As the question of the provision of speed controls and pedestrian lights is a matter for the local authority, I am referring the Deputy's concerns to my Government colleague, Deputy Dempsey, Minister for the Environment and Local Government, for attention.
