Vol. 512 No. 1

Written Answers. - Primary School Principals.

Enda Kenny

Question:

50 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science the cost of the proposals made by the INTO to improve the position of teaching principals; and his views on whether any benefits would accrue in planning and managing the schools as a result of its proposals. [25217/99]

The Deputy may be aware that I established a working group to examine the rights, roles duties and responsibilities of principals in primary schools. The working group, has completed its report and it was presented to me recently.

The actual cost of implementing all the proposals in the report can be prepared only after further clarification with the education partners.

In any discussions with the partners on the implementation of the recommendations of the report my Department will seek to ensure that any proposals which may be agreed will enhance the management structure of the schools and will ultimately benefit the pupils in attendance.
