Vol. 512 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Donal Carey

Question:

89 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of teacher vacancies which remain unfilled at primary and secondary levels. [25219/99]

My Department advises all second level school authorities of their approved teacher allocations for a particular academic year.

In the event of a finable vacancy arising in a school, it is a matter for the authorities of the school concerned to fill the post in question in accordance with agreed procedures.

My Department approves teacher allocations for each primary school by reference to a staffing schedule. The appointment of primary teachers is a matter for each individual board of management.
